Project: Last Words

"Last Words" is a narrative of eight individuals, their brief archetypal histories, and their last words spoken at the moment of death. Using text, images, and video, the piece attempts a new approach toward narrative by having the video and text obliquely play off each other, while the images [with their accompanying definitions and first person narrative lines] add an extra visual and metaphorical dimension. The piece is a narrative montage and is navigated either linearly or through the viewer's random engagement with the interactive menu.

Project: The Interactive “Book of Changes” — “I Ching”

The "Book of Changes" translates this ordered universe into a system of parallel symbols, sixty-four hexagrams, which express the various human situations. From the Chinese perspective, all phenomenal existence is conditioned by two polarities in contrast—Yin and Yang, which represent the dynamic of change, an organic order corresponding to human nature. To represent this ancient Chinese cosmic conception in a digital interactive art form is rejuvenating the old culture, as well as transforming and enriching the future one.

Project: The Loin

THE LOIN - super-short random snapshot encounters (low resolution video mini documentaries being transformed into animated gifs), a collaborative interactive net-based audiovisual project by Silvia Nonnenmacher and Jürgen Trautwein questioning conventions and standards in perceiving moving images and sound.

THE LOIN - are mini documentaries of San Francisco's seedy neighborhood the Tenderloin, an area of poverty, drug addiction, mental disorder and a very high density of homelessness. On daily walks through this downtown neighborhood a handheld pocket camera or phone is used to document the situations played out on these heavily populated sidewalks, without actually knowing what the camera will capture. When editing the material it is often surprising to see situations one has not been aware at the moment of passing by. Observing layers of movements, transitions and repetitions of people walking by each other, connecting with each other, crossing in front of each other, walking past each other, or are just standing, sitting, leaning, crouching, bending, wheeling, crawling and lying on downtown sidewalks. These animated super-shorts deal with the complexity of the perpetual reoccurring dynamics of inner city life from an accidental-walking-by perspective.

Project: An emotion

Images and animations in SVG format (scalable vector graphics), the programming language which strength allows to get possession  of the computer as an  expressive medium, and to use its"cold" code to  represent the mankind as a whole: feelings, passion and intellect.
Through the fusion of expressivity and science, art will represent the contemporary, building a virtual space  with a "computer language".
In such virtual space, the man projects himself experiencing new dimensions.

Project: DFT

Sfoggia Samy
Porto Alegre. Brasil
www.samysfoggia.wordpress.com

Project: REM

Samy works primarily with black and white negative film, scanned and digitally altered: assemblies, color inversion, drawings on the tablet. Her work is influenced by movies  (David Lynch) and literature (Franz Kafka). She tries to represent the subconscious mind by creating fantastic imagery and by juxtaposing elements that seem to contradict each other. Her pictures are like "frames" of an unconscious deliberately incoherent and illogical. She tries to create the nightmare aesthetics.

Project: Portals
