Project: Peoplemeter

Bob created world of signals, frequencies and impulses that drive digital media. Experimental film Peoplemeter was made with unusual techniques and formats, and abounds with special optical effects. It's recorded with video microscope, endoscope, and other techniques. The movie has no actors, and the protagonists are robots, umbrella and antenna living in a post-apocalyptic Belgrade.

Original music was composed by guitarist WoO from the collective BelgradeNoise. "Amplifying the air" through his guitar, with devices such as mobile phones, remote controls, radio, computer equipment, media players and others, WoO creates magical sound-world, frequency rich, oscillating and meditative.

GlitchSort is a Processing application creates glitchy images. GlitchSort's signal processing tools can transcode images into glitchy audio for real time performance. It has found an audience among glitch artists and includes a user manual. Code for Processing 2.0 and binaries are available at http://paulhertz.net/factory/2012/08/glitchsort2/. I have used GlitchSort primarily to produce digital prints: the images included are the digital files for my prints.

Project: Sun Powered Musical Instruments

Sun Powered Musical Instruments offers a poetic exploration of the assumptions underlying technology's harness on nature. The project is comprised of a series of BEAM robots, constructed as a combination of freeform soldering and "dead" elements from nature. The musical instruments are essentially robots that run on a solar engine circuit, with different combinations of resistors, capacitors and motors. The motor activates sound-making elements, causing dry leaves to flap against each other, or dry grass to shake. As a result, each instrument creates different rhythms, depending on how much sunlight it is exposed to. The sounds are created as an attempt to recreate natural sounds. They end up sounding mechanical and repetitive, with the only variation coming from the changing sunlight.

Project: Wanna Be

"Wanna be" is an exhibition based on scientific principles of the origin of matter, time and space. New theories on this issue, are defending the infinity of the Universe, which can generate a "repeat" or replicas of moments, places, events and of course persons.
