Project: Impenetrable as night

Impenetrable as Night looks towards the remote landscape of northern Iceland as virtual site for a demented tactical and techno-spiritual training camp. Mountain-like structures in the fjord reveal themselves to be hybrids of bunker and landscape. Animated figures perform actions that toe the line between worship and ritual violence. Modified icelandic “hot tubs” become potential sites for some sort of sinister training activity or violent ritual. Throughout the animation the virtuality of the space is revealed consciously via the inclusion (and revelation) of the 3D wireframe, the penetration of the surface of virtual bodies, the use of real-time rendering of individual frames screen-recorded from Maya, and the puncturing and layering of spaces that fail to conform to conventions of believable 3D space.

Project: King James version genesis charter nineteen

Genesis 19, ;Sodom and Gomorr, not only in the bible but also in the Quran and the Torah marks a foundation for attitudes towards homosexuality historically and across vast geographical expanses. The work shares an elemental challenge with all religions: how can religious stories be read and retold without affecting the authentic godly word through human interpretation? Utilising motion capture and live performers, the 3D video attempts a literal re-enactment of the biblical passage of Genesis 19.

A symbiosis of form, color and the flow of movement.
