Project: Journeys in Travel - Trip1.1

Stories always involve travel - always involve characters moving from one place to another.
‘Journeys in Travel: Trip 1.1’ is an experimental travelogue and tells a complex story of travel. It sets in motion a chain of references to related topics: on travel, being elsewhere in foreign places, tourism and identity. It is an audiovisual collage of associative reflections and episodic narratives in a mixed genre of experimental video, documentary observation, anecdotal travel report and socio-philosophical reflections to represent the complexity of moving through a hyper-connected world with multiple layers, references and interdependencies. ‘Journeys in Travel: Trip 1.1’ is recorded in India and Africa and based on texts by Arthur Asa Berger, Ryszard Kapuściński and Alain de Botton.

SEQUENCE ERROR

[Computer Science] An error that arises when the arrangement of items in a set, does not follow some specified order.

“Sequence Error” is inspired by the well known Karl Marx quote, “History repeats itself first as tragedy and than as farce”, and re-uses parts of two famous speeches of the 20th century delivered by Che Guevara (1963) and George Marshal [1947]. In a contemporary corporate environment and on the occasion of a sudden system crisis, two leaders of two different groups [workers vs. executives] deliver some parts of the two aforementioned speeches.

What the world will look like by 2050? What will be the next steps in an eco-friendly future? While politicians are engaged on two fronts in a half-hearted war on climate change and the disappearance of natural resources, we have already entered a period in which we are confronted with the very circumstances that we are still trying to prevent. The central point of the piece is to illustrate the loss of the alliance between nature and man and the resulting climate change.

Project:
Immigrants

“Immigrants”  consists in the register of an image left around Vienna. The image belongs to three Embera indigenous women that were found asking for money on the streets of a business center in Bogotá.
The intervention of the stickers glued around Vienna is then the basis for an animation that lasts 2 minutes and 37 seconds, where around the indigenous women appears their environment. This animation was made with the fingers, on a screen of Ipad with the program sketchbook.

Project: Ceibas: The Well of Representation

In part a remake of Hollis Frampton's Gloria! (1979), in part a repurposing of hacked, 16-bit video game technology; the well of representation asks us to reconsider our fear of the liminal. following the convergent narratives of several voices, ranging from the linearly historical, to the cybernetically personal, we come to understand the journey ahead: searching from interface to interface, knowing that whatever home we find will be a collaborative compromise. one where we might live beyond our representations and finally come to say what we mean.

Project: Good/evil

Expressive status of the body. Body still frozen encuadraturas locked regions that are left in conceptual photographic array. A body - subject / object / line and identified leads atraversado erotically spiritual allegorical configurations in which the exercise of vision mixed with tremendous ease to the purely technical. Light that caresses and penetrates the substratum suggesting things which surje zen. Attention to the spirituality of Zen Buddhism is the center of the work.
Each encuadratura, at first glance, is equivalent to transcendental noumenal esperiencias: Orchids represent purity and eros, the nails are calling to mind the pain of being in the world, good and evil, the effect face smoke notes with extreme transparency, uses meditative breathing techniques by which one arrives at a consciousness / higher knowledge.
A mystical coup in which electronic structure is expanded, contextualizing accelerates a phenomenon in which each party is required of a whole.

Project: HOW TO DISAPPEAR COMPLETELY: THE SCHOOL OF CYBERSEX (soft self portrait)

In this personal work Boris Eldagsen uses webcam footage and voice excerpts of people he had cybersex with between 2000 and 2003. Exposing their guided masturbation he draws an indirect and unflattering portrait of himself, a discomforting yet honest reflection of what lies at the heart of this private addiction of many. Combining split screen and flipped webcam imagery with a heartbeart-driven soundscape THE SCHOOL OF CYBERSEX (Soft Self Portrait) examines another redemptive way of losing oneself.

Project: 24-hours.in

An interactive documentary project, 24-hours.in explores opportunities for participation, collaboration and the potential democratisation of documentary production. Utilising user-generated video captured on mobile phones and available devices, the project is participatory, with the audience contributing documentary videos around the theme of 24-hours in a city.

With reference to Dziga Vertov’s seminal 1929 documentary film ‘Man with a Movie Camera’, the aim is for the videos to document the cities, the people that live there and their daily lives. Moving beyond the user-generated content model, the project will build up a database of location specific documentary material and aim to create a new system for collaborative documentary production and user-curated content.

Ubiquitous and pervasive mobile camera phones and smart devices offer the opportunity for the democratization of documentary production. These devices are in the hands of the many, potentially facilitating a collaborative and cumulative vision of truth about humanity and life in the 21st century to emerge.
