The Cultural Technology Centre of Knowledge ARTECHMEDIA is run by the artists Montse Arbelo and Joseba Franco and has arisen from their experience in developing projects in various sectors in art (visual, musical, theatre etc.), science, technology, business and institutions throughout the world.

The Centre is based in Bilbao, Basque Country and Santa Cruz in Tenerife, Canary Island.

Independently of the large centres of technology, art and research already in existence or being developed, we believe that today, in order to be truly operative and to respond flexibly to the challenges and opportunities offered to us by new technologies applied to art and culture, it is fundamental to promote large Technology Centres for Knowledge with assumable technological and human resources which are in touch with each social reality, that will generate content and global collaborations in Art-Science-Technology-Innovation in order to boost the Knowledge Society and Digital Culture.

The ARTECHMEDIA centre responds to the needs and opportunities of the new configuration in the creative process based on cross-disciplinarity and collaboration with the world of science and technology. The pigeonholing of sectors are being superseded by new concepts of creative and social innovation. A global online society that is diverse, integrated, with equal opportunities for all independent of ethnicity or gender etc.

As such, ARTECHMEDIA has been carrying out activities for promoting the intersection between innovative sectors by establishing collaborative relationships with artists and art centres, media-labs, science and technology centres, universities, political figures and businesses etc. in the Basque Country, Europe and internationally, who will be at the disposal of all society.

Vision. The vision of the ARTECHMEDIA Technology Centre for Knowledge is to be the key driver for crossdisciplinary innovation in all areas of knowledge for sustainable growth in a responsible economy through the stimulation of e-participation in all sectors of society.

Mission

The mission of the centre is to boost strategic crossdisciplinary and collaborative alliances between innovative sectors in Art, Culture, Education, Science, Technology, Business, Institutions and other emerging sectors of society through the development of projects aimed at having a positive impact on the Knowledge Economy and Society. It has been conceived as a space for ICT experimentation, research and development in collaboration with artists, scientists, programmers etc. It will establish collaboration agreements with individuals and organizations throughout the world with similar objectives.

Objectives

The main objective of the Knowledge Centre is to become a creative and innovative online organization for boosting the arts and digital culture, to be global, inclusive, participative in all sectors of society as an economically and culturally sustainable source of wealth. A Group of Experts of international prestige will act in an advisory capacity for calls and selection of art-science-technology projects.

  • Development of innovative crossdisciplinary projects through collaboration between creators, scientists, researchers, programmers, institutions, and technology businesses throughout the world.

  • Boost the Global Network of Experimental Technology Centres for Knowledge

  • Creation of a Global Network for Public and Professional Art, Science, Innovation and Digital Culture with resources for knowledge and the development of collaboration projects in a network of local, national and international agents.

  • To establish agreements and programmes for collaboration with artists and other technology centres, institutions, organizations and technology companies, the university and other sectors at a national and international level.

  • Organisation of conferences, symposiums, courses, seminars, workshops etc.

  • To be the centre for the Global Net Society Institute, promoted by ARTECHMEDIA.

Centre’s services.

The services developed and offered by the Centre are especially aimed at promoting crossdisciplinarity and innovation in the creative process through the use of ICT especially in the Internet, social networking, mobile platforms, and developments of software and hardware.

Research Lab. A laboratory for ideas for thinking about and designing our future. It will offer technical and human resources for research and the development of innovation programmes related to art with science, innovation and technology.

Sound and image editing suite. Service aimed at the art community. Editing in real time for multimedia production.

Workshop. Permanent education programme. Initiation into new technologies and specialised courses aimed especially at promoting cross-disciplinarity between creators, scientists, and technology businesses.

Media library. Centre for documentation and archives.

Communication media and visual communication. Development of contained media through internet, TV, radio, digital magazine etc.

Meeting and seminar room. Space for presentation of ideas, products and innovation projects in art-science-technology.

Exhibitions. The Centre as a whole is a space developed for temporary art and new digital media exhibitions.
