Project: Lost in Translation

Is an installation that shows the gap between Russian and Hebrew languages by presenting the inaccuracies of the transformation and the lost of the semantic context in a non-verbal way.
The strictly visual comparison between the original and the translated text, allows the process of translation to be observed in an "impartial" manner.
The viewer doesn\'t have to read or understand the languages, to view and appreciate the losses that the migration to another language and culture causes.
On the screens Russian words break apart, showing their cultural context while Hebrew translation options being compared to the source one by one.
With each Hebrew word presented, part of the Russian semantic field "dries out", demonstrating the bit that will be lost in the Hebrew version when the translation is complete. In the end of the process the different translation variations are printed out for the  viewer to compare.
The text I picked for the translation is Vladimir Nabokov\'s introduction to his Russian version of \"Lolita\", which he initially wrote in English and later translated it him self. In the text Nabokov describes the difficulties and  the complexity of being a translator and an immigrant, a person living within tow languages and between tow clotures.

Project: Universal Tourist

There is one moment, which unifies all travellers. It is the culmination of travel. It is the encounter with the global icons of travel. In a world of simulations we have seen all these icons long before travelling takes place:
On television, in magazines, books and on the internet. In a constant search of the real we feel now, in the moment of encounter, the urgent need to reassure ourselves of the existence of these places and thereby of our own existence.
Us, the travellers - in the position of the traveller.
Us, as part of reality, as part of the world, as part of history.
The moment captured for our return home when we write the stories of our
lives: I was here, so I am. I travel, so I am.’
‘Universal tourist’ is an experimental video, a documentary observation and a sociological and cultural study of a global phenomenon of mass consumer culture: it interrogates tourist photographic practices - the holiday snapshot. The video observes tourists while they act as tourists. It takes pictures of people taking pictures. It records them while they record themselves.
The photographic pose of the traveller, a frozen moment to store and save memories of a staged version of how one likes to see and remember oneself is explored as a moving image. What happens before and after the snapshot? The ‘decisive moment’ of photography extends and reveals more about photographic ‘truth’, ‘real’, staged and authentic moments.

Project: The scream of the butterfly. Animación digital con música electrónica.

I´d like that the image and sounds could provoke a set of impressions and sensations that would suggest the transition from peace to hybris.I´d also like them to prgresively built up a reflection about the
cicles and processes, from peace to violence. In a way my experiencies at BEIRUT and the city, whose in my heart , dreams and nightmares, are there without beeing explecetly present .
The video is dedicted to all those who in the midst of violence and hybris have the courage to stand against.
The title the scream of the butterfly is from When the music is over of Jim Morrison, and in the part that gives the titke to the whole video ,I try to represent the last breathes of harmony and beauty ,before all fades implosevely away, just like before evanishiing a set of relevants images comes to mind.
The opening part is dedicated to M.T. with whom Ihad a great time in morrocan cafés, The last part Fatima´s flight evoques the end of Cien años de soledad from Gabriel García Marqúes,when remedios flies away with the laundry .
This part is dedicated to L.G. with whom I´ve had a great time looking at the kasbah terrasses and imagining that one day we would end up seeing a woman flying away as in García Marquéz.
The soundtrack is composed by Julio Sanz : Composer and violinist. He specialized in electroacustical composition in the departement of electroacustic music [G.M.E.]. He was awarded by the International musictribune of the U.N:E.SC.O.And Nievescanta is the singer.

Project: La Condición Expandida / The Expanded Condition

Project: Box 3

Video installation Box 3 features Oblak & Novak as protagonists, with their image being multiplied. An endless repetition of automated gestures of their multiple selves, reminiscent of a factory, a systematized production process, is transferred from 2D video into actual 3D space, using pneumatic system. Oblak & Novak appear within a neutral space, similar to an exhibition space.
